Program Overview
Throughout history, students have been at the forefront of social change, from civil rights to voting rights to marriage equality. Today, students across every campus face an urgent crisis that calls us to action: the campus sexual violence epidemic. The Next Generation Leaders Fellowship is a 10-week summer intensive designed to empower students to be movement leaders -- in the anti-sexual violence movement and beyond -- by providing them with training and education in advanced civic engagement including policy writing, legislative advocacy, and grassroots organizing.
Fellowship Description
The Next Generation Leader Fellows will build skills needed to lead grassroots movements. By the end of summer, you will have gained experience in:
Our summer fellowship aims to train the students that will go on to lead our movement from drafting, to filing, to passing, to implementing student-written, survivor-centered, and non-carceral legislation in their target state.
Qualifications
We seek students who thrive under uncertainty, who are able to bring people together in support of a common vision, and who can overcome obstacles to achieve their goals. Change requires resilience - so we’re looking for students who demonstrate exceptional leadership ability and are committed to accomplishing real change over time.
Fellows will demonstrate or have the ability to demonstrate the following: committed to eradicating sexual violence and gender-based violence; strong verbal and written communication skills; thrive in high stake and rapidly changing environments; excellent time management; preference for social movements with an emphasis on taking direct action; and ability to demonstrate leadership skills as well as work collaboratively.
**Only accepting applicants for Fellows who are from or go to school in Massachusetts, Maine, Hawaiʻi, Virginia, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Arizona.
Diversity & Inclusivity
Our organizations stand on the structure and knowledge that Black students, first-generation students, low-income students, LGBTQ+ students, non-binary students, trans students, POC students, Indigenous students, disabled persons, and all marginalized students experience sexual violence disproportionately. Addressing sexual violence within colleges and universities means addressing systemic issues that silence students. Sexual violence disproportionately impacts those with marginalized and intersecting identities. We encourage and empower survivors and students who have been pushed to the margins and impacted personally by sexual violence to apply.
